Our next project was a travertine install complete w/ pergola, lighting and plantings...oh, and sod! I love it when they go for sod.

I actually like it i usually don't dig travertine but the dark border sets it off.

I like the travertine color. I just do not think the travertine goes with the boulders, the pergola, or the HOUSE!!!

Matt - Sometimes you have to go with what the customer wants. You just have to make the best out of it. You can't shine Sh77! I have to disagree with the boulders not going with the travertine, I think they go perfectly. If you saw the place before I got there, you would be amazed at the transformation.
BTW - I didn't go crazy with the pergola, because we planted Wisteria on 3 posts, so it will overtake the pergola in a few years...so you will not really see it.....it's called "vision"

Chris, that one stepper looks familiar.:)

Did you guys build the retaining wall along the driveway?

I think the boulders look great with the travertine. Looks like it has a touch of Zedo.

How is the customer planning to use two separate areas?

That's another job where the landscape looks like it is worth as much as the house. I know its not your house, so I'm not afraid to say that.:) I can never figure that out though.

Yeah, I got that stepper from some guy selling them out of the back of their van! LOL!
We did not build the wall, it is an existing masonry wall that needs to be replaced. The customer is planning on using the top pad for grilling, and the lower pad for a seating area and possibly a chiminea. The yard is sooo small, the lower pad is as large as I could make it and still maintain some grass/landscape area.

Looks great Chris, I missed this thread altogether. I would love a chance to use travertine but not sure how it would hold up in our climate. I really think you did a fantastic job, bet the ho was happy.

Job looks sweet. Do you custom build all of your pergolas or do you buy them as a kit???

I get a good vibe from the overall design, it ranks in the something different catagory.

did you lay the travertine in a motar bed?

The travertine on the top pad was an overlay, the bottom pad was installed in typical paver fashion. The yard was really small (30x50) so I had a tough time inserting all of the elements the homeowner wanted. His main focus was privacy, which was tough on this one because there is a main sidewalk running the length of the property that is well traveled.

Zedo - I think travertine would do fine in your area. After all it is natural stone. I would love to see a Zedo project out of travertine and boulders! Do it! Do it now! Do it!

how are you guys just on your second job of the year. is the season just starting up there. we have been hit with 95-100 degree days for the past week and would love to have some cooler temps.

out of curiosity, how long does your typical season last? not counting plowing. just building.

Our typical season runs from March to Dec. for build work. We are probably on our 6th or 7th project this year.

Our season started April 18th, and ended abruptly Nov. 15th. 7 months is all we get up here. I would be happy with one additional working month. Never would I want to do this 12 months a year, it would drive me insane.
