really nice, i was impressed with the border around the pool as well. is that the happy homeowner waving the the pic there?
I really like the design ..in particular, the way you incorporated the boulders into the steps. We don't have many swimming pools up here ...is that a concrete pool? What part of the country are you in ... do you have any issues with the pavers when you transcend from on top the crete out? When you say 4 men 3wks..are these 40 hr wks ?..so 480 hr job?

It is a steel lined pool, just a shallow one so the owners can play with their grandchildren. We had no issues with installing brick around the pool edge, it is a 3' concrete slab, Our coping is 7cm and our brick we used is 6cm, and with the 1/2" or so of mortor it leaves about 1" of play to set our grade.
Actually our weeks are longer than 40 hours, they would be closer to 55 hours. Factor each day with 8 hours lost in traveling time. We did a bunch of regrading and seeding on that site and their was some work up front to do also. The pictures don't show the scope of work to well. Just placement of rocks was a big issue to the man he was probably the most anal of all my customers the past 20 yrs or so. He was also charged accordingly since we had done his front yard the year before and knew clear well what was in store.
Just a few from the year earlier at his front yard.

Absolutely stunning! That's one of the nicest walkways I've ever seen. Looks like Belgard Dublin Cobble and Celtik wall....is that right? Most anal customers are a PITA, but in this case, it looks like the homeowner at least had vision, because the boulders are placed perfectly and it really sets it off!

Thanks for all the comments, I take negative ones as well guys. Although much prefer positive thoughts. :) The wall is Celtik and the pavers are "paleo-modular" brownstone red. The rock on the left side of the top platform was set in that manner for the grandkids to use as a chair. I've been told that its the mother who uses it most often. I thought that was pretty cool.

I wanted to have it cut and lowered, but mr and mrs homeowner had other thoughts about it. I probably would not of designed that walkway this way if it had not been there. So maybe in hindsight it was good planning.

The work looks awesome! Its the little different things that guys do that make the biggest differences.. great design
I may have caught one little thing that is hard to see in your pics :).. the front walk looks like it is one stone wider than the step..do you have a better pic of it?

You are looking at the curbs on the edge. If we put them inside then, well you get the idea....

What's your secret to getting the cuts so tight around the boulders? Ever have a problem w/ them moving?

I did my place with boulders built into the steps 3 years ago and have seen minimal if no movement at all.
I guess there is no secret really, just lots of tinkering around, no special tools required. Really anyone with good experience on a quick cut can do that.

Zedo,
what kind of bullnose did you use around that pool? Out of all the paver manufacturers around here, I have yet to come across a supply yard that carrys bullnose. I see on UniLock's website that they manufacture a bullnose paver but it's not offered in my area.

I was looking at that as well, and now that he posted a pic from the other end it is quite clear. looking at it from the top down made it look a bit odd, but bottom up shows the real deal.
Nice work, and I like the way the boulders were utilized as well.

Why not just use a Faux Rock to hide it? They make ones for hiding Irrigation and CATV boxes.
I have another question too. All the cuts and curves are nice and flowing. What do you use for a flexible curve? This is always my question with contractors. Some use pipe, some use fiberglass rods. I have this sacred piece of ridgid foam expansion joint that I use for the last 15 years.

You mean those fake rocks, naw they are not very nice and he would not of gone for that idea. Most of those rocks came from his property so he wanted to use what he had. And for the second part of your question its what did we used to use for the smooth curves. Its called snap edge, now its real flimsy and making curves is much more of a challenge than it used to be.

I like the layout. The running bond around the pool is a good touch. I'll use that myself if you don't mind. Just a thought though, If you put the boulders slightly below grade it looks like you went around them (an unremovable object) rather than the look that you placed them. I know you were working with material on-site. I'm being picky! Great job!

Good observation, only problem is I could not find a boulder large enough that would sit well below ground and get me up to the third step. The plan called for it and that was the best we could do.
