was at my supply yards yesterday and saw bluestone pavers, and slate pavers, both looked really nice. sorry no picts. have you guys seen these before and how would you go about laying them... leveling pad yes, tamper with urethane plate? the guy working said he tamps stone dust and lays over the top and sweeps in a polymeric type stuff:scared:

Our stone yard calls them Natural Pavers. they are only about 1" thick, but are fine for foot trafic. I would just do regular sand joints and then seal them since they are natural stone and will need to be sealed regardless.

We have granite pavers as well. We have done same prep as for ICP.

you can also set these as you would a tile (wet app.)

thats what I was kinda thinking, would you do a standard crusher subbase then pour a mortar (premixed from HD) or mix on site own recipe, then pour 1 1/2 - 2" and tap in paver 3/4 of the way?

hows that going to hold up to freeze thaw?

I just really liked the look and am going to try to find a job for them this year. I don't think I would want to seal them.

You need a concrete pad for wet app. especially in your freeze thaw, ½” mortar bed would be strongest.

if i wet set it, i would use a polymer modified thinset. if the pavers are pretty uniform in thickness, this is the fastest and strongest way to apply them. another good idea would be to put down an isolation membrane on the pad, then thinset, then paver. same as wet app. of travertine

Are you just adding a bonding agent to your thin set?

no, i buy a thinset that is polymer modied.it has good flexibility

... another good idea would be to put down an isolation membrane on the pad,.. what is this? something like rubber? so the pavers then "float" on top of it in the polymer motar, what holds the edges from pushing out?
