Anybody use the new Techo steps yet? They're made to look like natural stone. These we put into a Quarry Stone wall. I find I'm liking this much moer than building steps with the block and cap..... soooo time consuming. I need to sell more of these for sure.

I haven't used those yet, but I will definitely use them in '08. I really like that look, and Techo is big around here.

Man that looks awesome! They look great. I would have said that they ARE natural stone. I will definately check them out. How much do they run.

Mark, how did you construct the steps? What supports the treads?

Mark, I just noticed that fourth pic looks like it was taken on a movie set.

I was about to use the one that Unilock makes. We took a closer look at it and it was hollow and very fake looking. At $90 a piece for the 4'ers it was pointless to not use granite at $120. What does the Techo steps go for?

guys, the steps ran $72 each. We installed them on compacted 3/4" clean stone.
I've used the Unilock as well (Sienna). I like the look of these better, although when we were setting them, they seem a little fragile... it was a little scary laying a 2x6 on them and wacking with a hammer. Granite, no problem -- we lay the 2x6 on the step and hit it with the sledge. On these, we only used the base hammer.

Looks good. Do they only have square slabs....any natural shapes?
Any other job site pictures?

they weight about 200# each.
Also, they're called "Rocka". I confused them with Unilock La Roca pavers, which we've used recently.
Here's a few more pics, todd. Also, they don't have natural shapes. these come in grey and tan

We have done one job with the Techo Rocca steps. It was a walkway going to a dock.
Approx 200 long,
we used 34 Rocca steps on it. The landings where done in Trias, I really liked using it. there are a couple pics of it on our website.

Mark,
we starting using them quite a bit this year, your right it beats the heck out of wall/cap built steps, looks nicer i think, and also accents the steps more especially in a wall. Everything we price now that involves steps we price those bad boys out, its actually cheaper then building the cap/wall stone type.
PS: That Quarry stone looks real good, the steps really show to.

Yeah, I get jealous everytime I see a Quarry stone wall. I love the look.
I priced it on a couple of jobs this year and pretty much got laughed at, I woul dlove to sell just one job with it, so I would have something to show the next potential client.
Looks real good, no doubt.

Greenmonstor, that wall looks great! Some guys here have complained about the vertical blok on a Quarry Stone wall, did you have any issues or is there a trick in installing them easier?
I am in the minority here as I think building the steps with block and caps matching the wall looks nicer. But for the time involved along with the price of the "Rocka Step",you cannot go wrong.
By the way,we get the step here for $67.42.

We didnt try a pedastal with them. Im sure you could use regular 6" SRW blocks and pull it off though, Rocka is pretty consistent in its height of 6".
the Rocka steps are 15" deep and solid concrete, we plate compacted right up against the back of them and never saw anything move. We also run a bead of adhesive down the back of each step, each step overhung the next step approx 2.5"-3"

Yes, although it is not the more formal matching look of the same block, I do like how it draws a little more focus on the steps.
I'm pricing out using these as stand alone units up a slope for a potential spring job (actually 2 jobs). If someone is on a budget, they can easily save $50-$100 a step.

I used to be opposed to using steps other than the matching blocks for stairs... we did a ton that way, then I kinda got sick of it, and thought I'd try something different. I'm pretty hot on this right now, and we're doing granite steps in an Anchor wall right now. I love the fact that it goes up so much faster than block/cap stairs. I'm burnt out on that right now.
Yes, we have had problems with the "jumpers". The jumpers are NOT strictly jumpers. They can be used as a normal block in the wall as well. I guess it's a QC issue with Techo controling the horizontal dimension. I wouldn't recommend using a lot of jumpers in the lower section of the wall, because you'll be fighting it the rest of the way up.
