I just purchased a new Stihl TS-420. I tell you what. That is a great saw. it is well balanced and cuts like a dream. Even through a solid concrete pad we had to take up. Rather than jack hammer it and clean all that mess up, we cut the 12x12 pad into small 3x3 sections and dumped them into the dumpster. I can't wait to cut in a new patio with it.
Does anyone else have one. What is your impression of it?

Nevermind. Just found the other thread on this one.

Is the major difference they moved the air filter? I haven't seen one yet. Usually they only change model numbers to represent that the newer model complies with the EPA, thanks California.

I don't know. This is my first saw of this type. I am converting from doing a lot of work on a table saw. I rented one in the past, but that thing was a piece of crap and was incredibly hard to control. I believe it was an ICS or something. Same company that makes the concrete chain saws (red ones)

I like the older 400 better, the new one is real hard to start, even after getting it serviced for hard starting it still runs like crap. Must have a lemon.

We have been using a 420 for a while now, have not had any problems, my guys love it, they wont go near our 400 anymore.

I have a 410 and love it. It's made for a 12" blade and works great for cutting radii in place. Some people say "why didn't you just get a 420 and put a 12" on it?", the reason is that my visibility is hindered on the 420/12" due to the extra "hood" that overhangs the front of the blade.

I just purchased a 420. My first saw and I have not had a chance to use it. We will be using it this week. I paid 700.00 for it brand new. Never even had any gas in it. The local United Rentals store was closing and selling everything. I hope I got a good deal.

You def. got a good deal. after using mine for a whole season, it ran great except it got real hard to start there for a while. I had the carb. cleaned by the shop and it has run fine ever since. I still love the saw and the filter system seems to do what it says.

mine has minute amounts of something in the carb. probally something from dirty gas. the guy as the shop said those carbs are real finicky. did you have your filter cover replaced. there was a recall on the heal plate b/c the original one was breaking. it won't fix your problem, but you best to get the replacement while they are putting out there.
