Hi Chris,
Enjoyed talking to you at the ICPI Show in Tennessee. This is my first experience into the blogging world. Would be happy to share information about the Cell-Tek product line.

Product Summary:
Cell-Tek Stabilizer Grids are a 3 dimensional cellular confinement system that increases the load bearing capacity of base materials. A 2 inch cell depth filled with gravel is equivalent to 12" of base.
Reduce excavation by 50%. Reduce infill material by 50%

Welcome.......Cell-Tek guy. Can we call you the Larry Bird of the hardscape world? JK

I think you have a hell of a product from the looks of the site. Are you going to be distributing in PA at all? I would love to try this out.

We can help you out in Pa. The product is lightweight and easy to ship. I can send you one piece by UPS, so you can give it a try. You can email or call. My name is Mark. Let me know what type of project you are doing and I can recommend the right cell depth for you.

Mark,
Obviously the first time you install it may take more time. What does it take to install? What kind of cost are we talking? Does sound interesting. I would also like to give it a try. I missed the link could you repost?
Thanks Rob

The first time takes a bit longer. The panels come in collapsed form, when you expand them they make a 13'x13' grid 170sft. Build up a little gravel for a ramp then start filling the cells. once the cells are filled you can drive your bobcat right on to the grid. Over fill the cells by an inch, then you can tamp the gravel. The system will lock tight. A 2 inch cell depth is equivalent to 12" of gravel. You want to use a geotextile under the grid. The grid can be expanded using a couple pieces of bent rebar. You will be able to put down 1 grid in less than 2 minutes (unfilled). We have a video on our site at www.celltekdirect.com

Those numbers work out pretty well considering needing half the excavation and stone. What kind of long term data have you guys collected so far?

We have lots of technical data. The product has been around since the late 1970s. It was created by the Army Corp. of Engineers and used for doing amphibious assaults during military invasions. The troops would expand the grid and fill the cells with sand then they could drive their tanks and trucks across the beaches. They were using an 8" cell, which increases the load bearing capacity by 13 times.

Mark, I'm still in the 20th century with dial up internet so I haven't watched the install video. To do a paver patio I usually excavate down 7"-8" compact 4 inches of base 1" of setting sand and lay pavers. With this system I would only use a 2" base than 1" setting sand and lay pavers? On drives we use a 12" base. Would I only need 2" with this system?

Great question, or how about your installing a walkway and the soil is heavy clay, do you still only need to dig for 2" of base?

On driveways a 3" cell depth would work great. If you are going over clay soils you can use a 3" or 4" cell. The stabilizer grid helps to create a monolithic type bridge across these bad sections.
