This is an EP Henry VS patio we installed. It was 3 colors/3 sizes. Needless to say, it was a challenge to get it to look right. There is a hot tub going in over the pvc stub. You will also notice that the "structural" wall is a different color. We used VL to build the walls (will be buried after the next phase is complete in Spring) and then switched to EP Henry Cov.

Nice work Chris,
Must have been a real challenge to lay this design out with the different colors and sizes.
Did you account for the extra labor in laying the patio??

Thanks. yeah, I added a few man hours to compensate for the additional time. It's a random pattern and to be honest it is the most expensive pattern to lay for us.

When I first started, I made the mistake of selling random thinking it would be easier. Yeah right!!!!

Whenever we are laying a random pattern I check the ratio of different sizes and make sure my guys are pulling off of the pallets at the same ratio. This helps to make sure we have an even distribution and I think it helps with the time it takes to lay.

Love the mitred cut ins around the 4x4's. Adds a nice touch of class.

nice work chris, we just finished our first village square patio and walk. i never layed it before, turns out i like it more than i thought. what was the reason for the VL wall block below?

Well, I like using VL on my structural walls for 2 reasons. A) Cheaper! B) It's 12" deep and solid, which makes for a better footing IMO

that was my suspicion, ep henry says to use cov+. its not much cheaper than DBL sided and its a different size. i am starting to like the chain whipped walls that VL has. it has a different look than split face, which is nice, and its a lot cheaper. plus they have a SF block that is whipped.

Only thing i do not like about the patio is all the spots in the pattern that 4 corners meet. Yes i am that anal about random patterns.

I agree w/ you Matt, it's just incredibly hard to accomplish that w/ those sizes. W/ larger pattern flag it's a bit easier to do, but w/ pavers you have 20 times the number of pieces and you have to draw a line as to how anal you want to be if you want to get out of there, that is.

I like that there is about an inch of fall over about 12 feet...

Only reason is that there will be a hot tub sitting there. I tapers to 1/4" per foot closer to us.
