Anyone know of any tree farms in northern NJ or southern NY? I met with a client today that wants to plant some mature trees and isn't impressed by what's available at the local nurseries. He told me that back in Maryland, here he lived previously, he bought trees from farms where they were dug fresh before delivery.

what types of trees do you need? i deal with several nurseries here and thats the way most of our trees come. we flag them and they dig them for us.

We have a tree farm near me that specializes in larger trees. I know they ship all over the place. We just got a 20' Clump River Birch for $250!

look in the yellow pages for tree moving companies, alot of times they have groves where they put in mature trees to sit until someone wants them that they get off of jobsites, some people would rather have trees moved then cut down.

It's Buddies Nursery in Exeter. Now they normally run $400, but he had 3 sitting there that he wanted to get rid of. I should have taken all 3 for that price, but $400 is still a good price for a large Birch like that.

Jay, he didn't mention any specifics but he did say a larger variety of deciduous trees would be nice. What are the names of some of the growers in your area. I've bought from W.V. Griffin in the past but wasn't too thrilled with what showed up.

Jason,
You ever use Tuckahoe Nursery or Johnson Farms? How do these nurseries you use compare to Johnson's prices and quality?

I have never used Tuckahoe, but i have used Johnson. the job i just big recently Johnsons couldn't come close to the price from Bellones nursery. they are my go to guys when i need the best price on a big job. if you are looking for quality over price and quantity then the others are better.

they all are wholesalers that sell to contractors.

i have never heard of them. we are pretty far south here and in the middle of farm country, so we have a lot of growers and nurseries here.

I'd look at Northern Nuseries or Princeton Nurseries they are both great. I've been to Bellones as well, stuff is nice but I feel their supply of stuff I use alot is too limited. Going to Northern is like being a kid in the candy store, they have huge trees and awesome specimen ones as well.
