Question on Forum structure

What exactly is the significance of the "buddy" list? If you add someone, what does it do, alert you when they are online?:confused:

I think it just let's you know when they are online. Maybe it just highlights their name. Not really sure as I do not have any buddies! LOL!

Captain, it also allows you to PM everybody on your list without ccing and typing in the names separately.

Other than that, I'm not sure.
