Thanks for posting those. My question is under the risers you are filling each section with concrete and rubble, correct? Don’t you need to wait for each course to set up before the next layer?

I am actually pouring something like 4 inches of concrete on each step and the landing. We are doing 6inch steps and the block is 8. Since i have to pour the landing i figured its just easy to pour the steps also instead of cutting block in half. Existing steps are going from 8 to 6 inches also. Steps are getting venered in all grainte.
After each layer of block you need to stop and drink two beers. Everyone lays block better with a buzz!! No actually i cranked that stoop out before lunch. You do not need to wait between layers. If someone tells you that you need to wait, they are just a alcholoic!

Matt, do you find it's cheaper to fill with block than to pour the footer to just below grade?

Yes. Concrete is 100 bucks a yard. The footing alone used 1 yard.
Are you saying just dig a whole and pour concrete to grade? That would not work for this set of stairs because the wall was going right there.

I'm not saying anything. For this job, I see that wall is right there.
I was just asking in general.

In another situation, yes it would make more sense to just dig a 5x6 hole and fill with 4 yards of concrete.
