We have an outdoor kitchen coming up this spring to install. Has anyone built it doing a poured wall over cmu's? I have access to the forms, and know how to set it all up, just wondering if there is an advantage to using cmu's over poured concrete...

CMU's are easier to control the outcome. Forming and pouring a structure like a kitchen would be really difficult to form up as a monolithic pour with all the difference compartments needed. Plus you run the risk of a bowed form or blowout.

Why not build it with steel studs and Durarock?

CMU's, are the only way we use. I can recall a couple of times there has been and last minute addition to an outdoor kitchen.

I have never tried the steel process. Is the out come of good quality? Can this be something I can guaranteed for 6 years of cold Chicago winters.

Too much room for error pouring IMO. Your forms would have to be perfect around all the appliance cutouts, or else your going to be spending alot of time with the saw and grinder.
