One of our dealers- GAPPSI (www.gappsi.com) has their own brand of patented edge restraint. I have not seen it reviewd on the board yet, but if you follow this link, you can see it on Youtube.

Anthony, how does that system work when the field perimeter pavers are cut in place?

IMO it over complicates an easy task

When you guys have a moment, check out Gappsi's website and look at some of their projects. There's some pretty amazing stuff on there.

I don't think I can really buy into that system....I like to to cut the pavers in place with a demo saw and then install a restraint...doesn't seem like a labor savings (might even take longer to install), I would rather have the base extend a bit further, so this seems like it is of no benefit to me anyways.

Abrancati is one of the most gifted craftsmen out there. His designs are amazing.

Yes, I have to agree with you on the saw cutting- that would cut the straps and ruin the edge restraint. When I have personally installed, I always did the field work first, and finished with the soldier course/edge restraint. I'm not a fan of 'fiting in'.

The reason for Gappsi designing this edge restraint system is, he is an artist and craftsman. The flowing designs of his work required a flexible edge restraint system to speed up his own installations. He was also able to obtain a patent it,so that gives a reason for the marketing.

I will attach a photo shortly of a job he's worked on, with the installation of lights.

Yes they do alot of high end work around here. t\They opened a retail supply yard several years ago, and seem to be doing very well there. They must have at least 10 installation crews now.

It's an interesting product. I don't understand the marketing angle that it's faster to install than regular edging. They also market the fact that you don't need to spike it in, yet you need to spike it twice.

On a side note, Gappsi is definitely an awesome designer. Good inspiration on that site.

From the looks of the video, they were either installing the straps directly on the agg base and then setting the pavers on top of the agg, or they were installing the straps into the sand and thus the edging directly on the sand as well...

About the only application I think I'd really want to try that for is a running bond sidewalk. I do WAY too much cutting in place to use that stuff.
