years ago i installed a heated walkway. we ran anti-freeze thru it. it worked pretty good. just the edges didnt stay clear so well. today they have so much more to offer us as far as heating systems, but i must admit im not sure how to install these new systems. im doing research on them now. how about anyone else? anyone install a heated walk? what did you use and how did instal?

Hey Custom, have a driveway and entry path that will be heated using electric mats sandwiched in the sand bed of a paver job. Certainly is not cheap to buy the materials but installation seems straightforward. Will need an elect. to wire up the controllor to the house switch board. The clients specifically stated they did not want the liquid type of system so they had done some research. Allwarm is the supplier of the material, pretty helpful, their numbers show the system will use about $20 per 6" storm to do its trick.

thats great job, a heated driveway. i cant imagine how much the snow melt system must cost. do you have the specs on the driveway? do you know if the system is run on just one transformer( i mean does it need a sub?) whos doing the calculations? i dont see how it can be that energy efficient.anyhow, tell me more about it please. theres a company out of california that uses a type of grid system of preformed pipes that uses liquid. ill have to find my info on that. pavement melt systems are a big hit (have been) out west. id like to introduce more of this work in our areas out east.

Hey Custom check your PM.s
I don't live in snow country, but I could definatly see a plow destroying a paver driveway. Anyone ever had an issue with plowing paver driveways.

Its usually operator error on either the installer or the plow. I’ve hit the sailor coming at an angle before and lifted a few up, but that’s my fault. The other is improper installation causing a trip edge or gaps in the field.

You should use a ploy or rubber blade. I have seen some pics of some messed up drives.

I only have one paver drive that we service. It there were more around here I would consider it. Do they make a rubber cutting edge option?

Absolutely! The poly ones wear better though.

Use that to sell the heated driveway application.
