The driveway at my house is about 2.5' below grade. At the front entrance by the main road there are stone walls on either side (picture 2 reversed "7"s). Parking is becoming a huge issue and I want to continue the wall all the way across the front of the yard to accommodate parking off the main road. The problem is this beautiful sugar maple right in the line of fire. Its about a 5" caliper and 20' tall. Think I could move it? If I took a mini-x and dug a deep trench around the root ball and scooped it up with the skid, do you think it has a chance? I want the wall to show off my work and increase parking but that tree blocks the neighbors!:scared:

Check w/ some local nurseries. You might be able to get someone w/ a spade to come out and dig it for you. I would not try to use a mini. You will tear it up. I just had 5 trees (12' tall white pines) dug and transplanted for $500

Yes, follow this advice, best way to do it is with a spade. Call a nursery and have them move it for you. Probably cost around 3 to 4 hundred, but well worth it. I would move it early spring if possible.

One thing, there is usually no warranty on transplants and you can buy a 3.5" sugar maple for around $200 installed with a warranty. I'm the first person to tell customers not to cut down trees, but Sugar Maples are fast growers and maybe I'm talking to the wrong ppl, but I've never had a spade truck move anything for $500. Who do you guys use for spade trucks?

Someone planted a holly tree under the power lines and it has grown to that height recently. I am going to cut it down, with no regrets, grind the stump, and plant another holly away from the lines.

speaking of trees to close, this SOB is killing me. there is another one on the very end, that is preventing us from getting the skid into the end 15' or so of the wall. So, we have to bring the agg backfill down with the skid, and then shovel it over with the mini.

What a PITA these have been to work around.
