Ok so on a job taking down existing R.R. tie walls and replacing with some mini creta. the one wall has existing lights. The wall comes down tomorrow after this rain quits...but right now the wire is run under the first course and comes up through the center and into the light fixture. the fixture is threaded into the wood. Its suprisingly secure. Im thinking I'll just drill the correct size hole through the cap....throw some clear lexel in the hole...and "thread" it into the cap?
Or is there a better way?

Is it on a pillar or just in the wall itself?

Depends on what style of lights are in use. If they are lanterns, and post mounted, you can buy a post mount that will fit nicely on the pillar. you'll need to anchor it with four screws. I suggest not using the blue, tap screws, because they will rust and not give a nice appearance. Pre-drill holes in the cap, and insert a suitable anchor, and stainless or brass screws.
If the fixture mounts to a threaded pipe, you can core drill or saw cut a hole to receive a brass pipe nipple. You can use quick setting cement to anchor it level, and then attach your fixture. Be sure to cover your work area with newspaper, as cement or portland will stain.

its just on techno aged cap with mini creta underneath.
Anthony...they are lanterns that have existing threaded pipe. I'll do as you suggest and core drill it.. im just worried about the brass eventually staining or discoloring the cap.

Brass will not stain. It will darken, but thats about it. Copper, on the other hand will eventually patina and can cause some greenish stains.
