So far I see about $137.50 in materials. Must be some expensive stone facing.

Veneer being laid up. We seem pretty slow, must be rusty. Only 32sq in 8 hrs.

I've never done any veneer work what makes those pillars worth 25k?
CaptainsLS

Well, they shouldn’t be. I was curious if anyone would take a guess noticing how awkward the layout appears.

Man I want to do some veneer work!! Its been some time. So how deep is your frost line? How many yards of concrete do you have in those footings pouring them to grade?

You know, I figured what the hay... this is a small job why not use 80lb bags of quickcrete. Something I never do. 100+ bags later I swore to never do that to myself again...
So, what is the story with the layout? Is there some sort of structure going on them I assume? Is that at a garden center or something?

I’m always using the golden rule, it’s just a little more challenging on such a small area.

Haha, made that mistake on the last veneer job myself. You didn't use bags for the footer though, right?
I'm stumped on what's going on top of the pillars. The back ones seem higher than the front ones....they seem too close together for a pergola. Are you building an outdoor display that will consist of two levels?

Really like the stone. Looks great.

Yeah. Like I said... I will never do that again. I win the PH Special Olympics for that one.
We had to work under tents today, it's been raining like crazy. Update:

Looking good. I am very curious to see what is going to become of these four pillars... Suppose to rain again tomorrow unfortunately

We went from rain to 90 degrees here in MA. Still keeping with the tent for shade now. For having never built pillars before, I really like working on them. Hopefully someone will see these and want them at the end of their driveway.

What product did you use? Were the corners pre made? How much per sq. ft?
CaptainsLS

Bigvic, the stone is called Old Redding. Yes, its a sawn veneer so their do make corners. Its around $15 per square and $21 a linear foot if you need corners.

Seems like an obvious question but what are the pillars for? Why are they 25k?

Those prices aren't bad at all. How much were the caps? Did they come pre finished on the edges or did you buy a bigger slab and make them yourself? I love the look of those stones and you are doing a great job.

So the $20k piece of wood got installed today, lol. I thought some of you guys that went to New England Grows might have seen this set up at the Walpole Woodworkers booth. The pergola was their booth, and we were hired to re-install it as a display unit at one of their new dealer locations.

Great Job Captain. Is anything going under and around the pergola?

Thanks Adam, The dealer is also a garden center so they plan to put hanging baskets around the pergola for sale, as well as make a "step-able" plant display under it... again, the whole unit is simply a display piece.

In regard to the price, the whole thing is cellular vinyl with aluminum reinforcement. Have a look:

They dont have cheap products and you really do get what you pay for from them. They have been in the fence business since the 30's or something. Most of the other companies around here are just attempts to replicate what Walpole started way back when. If money weren’t an object, and I wanted the nicest product....I would use Walpole. But since I cant drop $500 for a window box.....I'll just stick with installing it:noidea:
