I am ready to order a dozen evening star lights, but want someones opinion on which they like to work with better. Fit, quality ease of install etc. I've heard the evening star stick out quite far from under step caps, is this true, how much overhang do you need in order to have them "covered"?
Thanks

dont know about evening star, but focus or fx's version of integral you only need an inch.

Integral is an inch as well. Vista has a new "integral" type fixture that seems a little nicer in that it has a frosted lens to eliminate the hot spots you get from the Integrals

as far as quality I would say Evening Star. But they require 1 3/8" versus Integral 7/8"- 1".

I ordered 3 of the integral with my order just to see the difference myself. At 1 3/8" it will look a little weird on the steps I think, but maybe with a bit of cutting and chipping of the block I can get it to sit back a bit?

thats what I thought but then I said,"wait a minute, arent these supposed to eliminate cutting?"
The Evening Crescent light is protected in its own truck-lite housing whereas the Integral is not in any protective housing. Thats what makes the dimension difference. I would like to use Evening Star on an upcoming job but it will be too bulky under 3cm travertine bullnose steps. For walls and a fancier look I choose Evening.

The Vista light is nice with the frosted lens.

Our Wall fixture requires approximately 1-1/4" of reveal or overhang of the cap to completely cover the flange. Our fixtures use a sealed, polycarbonate lamp, with built in optics. This required a little more space. The fit may be excessive for smaller wall block, with smaller caps, or double sided walls, however it works best with full sized blocks and caps.

We will offer a halogen version of our fixture in the future. The benefit, is the smaller reveal and tighter-fitting job application, but will lack the optics which spread the light out evenly, eliminating hot-spots.

An Installation Tip:

On an application where minimal reveal is required, the fixtures can be slightly recessed into the face of the wall block, by chipping off the split-face with a few blows of a hammer.

Most split-face wall block can vary in depth from piece to piece- Sometimes you get a big crumb right where your placing a fixture, and the block will need some chipping for a custom fit.

Just what I intended to do! Does it block a bit of the light though?

No, because we designed the lamp holder to have a 30 degree angle, away from the vertical plane of the wall. The light will project forward and out, towards the ground in front of the wall, such as a path or walkway.

Here are some photos from a job in progress in Long Island, NY. These are courtesy of Gappsi.com The reveal appears normal. I'll attach a illustration photo as well.

Is it just the picture or is the light yellow?

It's the picture. I can set the exposure on the camera to make the scene appear like daytime, or very dark, where all the detail is lost. This also affects any light sources to appear like a blow torch, or subtle as a candle.

Anthony what block is that patio made of? It blends really nicely with the stairs and I love the smooth appearance.

It's Travertine in front of the steps...I'm not sure who's block steps and walls are made of.. Might be Nicolock.
