And I am the one who cut the front limestone too short. Thought 12" divide by 3 was 3. So we had to have the side peice show on the front..

Maybe I should of just had a 1.25inch joint between the lime stone peices!

Here is another job from march. Anyone notice a trend? Jobs are smallllllllll.

I don't like small landing (or lack of) on the stairs.
smalllll...whats the dollar value on that.

$1200 bucks. The existing slab was already there. I took down wood stairs mortared some old pavers together and throw on the limestone. I would of rather made the stairs larger, but then there would be no room to stand in front of them.

At least your doing SOMETHING! We haven't even got started here yet. Just plain gross outside...

P.S. I like the firepit job. Post pics when done

I did a tile floor the first week of march and after that we started out side work. So I did have a early start this year. My q1 2009 is down 80% from 2008. That hurts!

Looks good Matt, really like the landing in the first set of pictures. As my boss said "this will be the year I won't turn down any job"

Work looks good Matt. I wouldn't worry about the size too much. 10 10K jobs is still a 100K. Sometimes getting in and out cuts down the margin for error and you make more money. Hell, at least your building.....I've been planting and mulching all spring.

Looks good. Like Adam said it's still money coming in and that's all that matters. We've just gotten started up here in the past two weeks.

In addition to the steps made for someone with a size 6 shoe. What's the deal with that wall? No drainage stone installed each layer and compacted? Are those cut pieces behind the wall? Just because it's a small job doesn't mean it's any less important. As you said, sales are down...treat every job with the same level of quality and detail and the referrals will roll in. I just sold a stoop almost identical to the one you posted, but with thermal threads, not limestone.

Matt stoop is nice. Did you run into anything while tearing off the old?

mrusk

JZAP dont worry. The wall is 2.5 courses tall at its highest point. It backfilled with all the paver scraps wrapped in fabric.

The stoop rebuild went without a hitch. The orignal stone was laid with no pitch. The slab had pitch but the brick around the side was level. So for whatever reason the person put 2 inches of stone dust in the middle of the slab. Then mortared the stone on top of that?!?!??!

I pulled the old stone off with no issue and the slab was in good shape.

THis job we started today is alittle larger.

The rain is killing me.

Yeah, I'd say that looks like 4-6" lifts to me...LOL

As someone else said earlier, build the small stuff like you would the big ones, b/c it is that small little job that you didn't pay that much attention to that will have you coming back out every month for some little issue..

Glad to see you guys starting to pick up. I am almost finished with a job, the rain has come about every 3rd day by the clock. I am excited though, after that job, we are building a quick little display for one of our vendors, the off to build another outdoor kitchen with all the goodies.

That base looks like a driveway

And I still need to add a few more inches. We are really pulling the walk away from the house. The yard slopes away from the house. So advoid having the walkway go down hill and then back up hill. we are building the center area up.

When I raise up with that much base, I always find it it better to backfill and compact dirt on the outside of the lifts as we come up. It acts like a restraint for the overbase and seems to compact the edges tighter than mounding. Just a suggestion.

What do you guys think for materials for this job? This guy is my friend and we are kind of just going on the fly on this one. First we were thinking santorini since we used some in the backyard. No we are leaning towards pattern bluestone with a paver boarder.

Inca w/ a brick border would look sweet!

After ripping out 2700 sq ft of devon stone last summer I refuse to use any type of wet cast paving stone/slab product.

Inca looks great, but haven't a few guys complained about its build quality from Techo?...........or,has that been rectified? I am just curious as to whether companies like EP Henry ,Techo, etc., actually listen to our complaints and fix their problems

EP's new coventry wall is better in terms of being perfectly modular. I have used it on 2 jobs this spring and no more are the variations in height. So, this either happened by defualt of the new manufucaturing process or they listen to the complaints. But, it is definately better in those regards.

Should I try to find a clay paver that matches the house brick for the boarder?

Matt:

If you did not want to use natural flagstone, we have a product called Kennedy Bluestone which is a man made alternative that looks very much like the real thing. Good looking surface and color, same thickness for each piece so it's very easy to work with and about $1.00 less per square foot than the real thing. I don't know if it is available in your area, but it would make a very nice walkway with that brick color.

We decided to do real bluestone for the walk with a hera 6x9 sandlewood boarder.
