vertical gardening

Anyone ever do this? Or seen it? I was reading the latest edition of Garden Design and saw one in there. I,ve also seen one big one in Niagra Falls at the bird conservatory, and at a couple greenhouses out west. My questions....
1. how is the plumbing run?
2. where do you find the cells?
3. What kind of reinforcement are you looking at for the walls?
I want to try one or more at my place to get some practice, the one in the magazine was like a cool picture!
