chardscapes

Hey chris , would it be possible to add a design segment to the forum. We could post tutorials and how to's for software and give design techniques. ??

I second that. It would be nice to post designs from the LA and have them critiqued or looked over for potential problems. I would like to see a strictly masonry segment, but I'm guessing that falls under hardscape (there is a huge difference however). It might bring a different kind of crowd to the field. It would be nice to have a brick mason, stonemason, or someone that specializes in fireplace construction to run stuff by....

I moved this over to the suggestions forum so the powers that be can use this suggestion.

Thanks. I agree Captain. Let us learn how to properly install footings and such with masonry since with SRW and pavers you don't have to do so. There is a major difference between the two .

I just don’t see a reason for any "masons" to join or take part in the site. If we open up a niche for them to converse it benefits us, and them I would imagine (ever see a mason use pavers! LOL)

I agree with that. Maybe Chris should break the Hardscaping up into a section for wet laid and a section for dry laid. Also I think a section for outdoor woodworking, pergolas, arbors, trellises, decking. All this should also be a part of a good hardscape design. Why not also do a section for softscape as it relates to the hardscape. Let the guys on here with plant knowledge, help out their fellow hardscapers. Cause from what I've seen, most guys who build patios well, end up ruining it with a cheesy softscape.

Trust me, no one is looking to have a how big is your mower section? In my opinion landscaping and hardscaping go more hand in hand than landscaping and mowing. Landscaping is directly tied to hardscaping in every way. The best hardscapers will design a hardscape with the landscape in mind. You want to be a better hardscaper, start thinking more about the negative space you create by your hardscapes and what should be filling it. A hardscaper that doesn't know anything about plants is really like a pond guy who builds ponds but doesn't know aquatic plants. A part of any hardscaper's self improvement plan should include bettering their knowledge of landscape design. That's what the customers want. That's also the fulfilling part of doing a beautiful hardscape. It's not truly alive till you add plants.

I make more money on plants then hardscapes!
I think anyone that starts listing equipment in their signitures should get banned from this site! I really do not care how many TS400s any of you have.

The Design Forum has been there for about a week now. I went in and changed the description to make it more recognizeable.

I hear what you guys are saying regarding splitting up 'wet lay/dry lay' into separate forums, but we feel that by doing it the posts would get diluted and the membership would segregate itself. We want everyone to benefit from all of the information on this site and we beliebe it makes for a better discussion if both types of hardscaping can interact. If we see the need in the future, we will create a separate forum, but for now we would like to keep it as "one big family" We have created a softscaping type forum for you......................50% isn't bad!

Good stuff Chris. You have a good point about the wet lay/dry lay. Let's keep it a family. Thanks for adding the softscape section. There's a typo in the header though. "Pantings" instead of "Plantings"

I think that this website should have "Spellchecker Version #75"
