Hey guys. when you go to do a wet lay sidewalk, how thick of a concrete pad do you poor first?
Another alternative is to dry lay it with poly sand. What kind of slope can you do this before the slope endangers the integrety of the walkway and caused it to slide or shift?
I have not done a wet lay before and have a customer who would like a 4' wide x 35' long walkway from his concrete pad to his new "Deck". It is about a 3' drop over the span making it like a 5% slope.
Thanks guys.

I normally do a 4-6" base of 3/4 crush stone and then 4-5" of concrete.

I think that would be extream for us in the south since our freeze zone is only about 10" wouldn't you?
Would you dry lay on a grade?

Due to the freeze/thaw cycles we experience here in the mid-atlantic and northeast states, outdoor concrete should be a minimal of 4". If you are pouring this time of year it is imperative you cover the fresh concrete for a minimum of 48 hours to protect from freezing. And never pour on frozen sub-grade. If you customer is really pushing you, cover the area with concrete curing blankets (or plastic and salt hay) to thaw the ground before pouring. This may take a coupe days depending on the recent weather. Hope this helps

yea, our weather for the past week has been 65-70 degrees. We still could get a cold snap or two this time of year, but most of our freezing temps are behind us down here in South Carolina.

I have had a few calls and have done a few quotes, but it looks like most people are just getting quotes for work they want to do in March.

We are doing 4 different areas of permeable pavers in a parking lot as we speak. Nothing is better than getting 2-3" of rain and being able to set paver on a base that wasn't tarped or anything. No mud, No pumping base because the rain got under the tarp. Hello winter and wet time work.

Zedo, believe me, unless you plow also, I don't know how you guys make enough money during your good months to carry you for the six or so that are not. I don't have the snow, but with peoples mindset, you would think we are under 14' of it. Oh well, I will continue to push and hopefully something will come through.
I just got back from church and had two guys ask me about hardscapes and a pergola. maybe something will pan out.

Haha Andy's right! We had 2-3' of snow everywhere, luckily there's been a serious thaw and 50*+ temps for a few days. It was short lived though, back down to the 20's within 24 hours.
On a side note, this warm weather has got me thinking about much needed planning I have to do for spring. I can't wait:thumb:

We have a good 7 months to get it all in. In a perfect world I would like to make it 9 months. I'd be retired by now if I could work all year long.
