Hi Everyone

I wanted to post a project that I just won a award for from the NJNLA.

That is really awesome. Really like the way it all came together. The blending of natural stone with the pavers and the plant material and waterfall.Wish I could get some jobs like that around here...

Wow Marc, that looks amazing. That was one of my favorite jobs on your website. For the design, did you do marker over an AutoCAD File?

Hi Adam

I did marker over an AutoCad File for the rendering. It is fast and looks good.

Very nice. You should try to get that in NJ DESIGN definately magazine caliber. You probably would have to advertise though.

Very nicely done!!! Definitely a job that has andless amounts of class! Out of curiosity, what type of stone is used in that waterfall???

What's the purpose for the additional spa outside of the one in the pool?

There's definitely something to be said for this site when so many people are putting up pics of work like that!

Thanks for everyone's nice comments. The spa attached to the pool is closed when the pool closes so the client wanted a spa for the winter months. The stone used for the waterfall and steps is Kearney Stone I purchased it from Wicki Stone. Kearney stone is a consistently brown bluestone. They have Kearney stone boulders. I did another job which I will post in a few days with a nice dive rock that I got from the same supplier.

Cool, I was 99% sure it was bluestone but the coloring and some of the whiter portions of it threw me for a bit of a loop. Do you have a link to this supplier? Where are they out of?

Marc wanted to revisit this project and create a sketchup model that could serve as the precursor to the final images when presenting this job. Him and I collaborated on the sketchup model and I did the photoreal rendering in Vue 7. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think of these. They are sketchup outputs that I took into photoshop and worked into watercolor styles. I know some people prefer the non-photo real look. Which one do you guys like better?

I would say #2 on the water color. The moving water makes it look like there are fish in the pool Lol. I am always in awe at the projects you post, just keep telling myself someday someday..........

I played a little more with different watercolor techniques using a different angle from Marc's design. What do you guys think of this style as opposed to the photoreal stuff? I would be curious to know the impression level of a client who received two competing designs and one was loose and stylized, while the other was detailed and photoreal. Part of me feels like the client wants to see as close to the finished product as possible, while at the same time a high end client may be more appreciative of the artistic representation. Any thoughts? Which would you prefer to present to your client?

As far as the two below renders, the first one I made into a watercolor style from a Podium render, specifically to get the reflection to show up in the pool. On the second one I used a lot of the same techniques on a straight sketchup output. There is definitely a noticeable difference. The bottom one took 20 minutes to do, while the top one took almost double that.

I like #1 better but I'm more of a linear thinker.

Here's another set I was playing with. Still trying to determine which would be more effective to a customer -

I'm going to definitely work on getting better ornamental grass and perennial images this year. The display looks good. I like the water color styles that I did better than the colored pencil ones that were presented. But regardless of style, it's really neat to see the design along side the finished project. I think I'd like to revisit some pre-sketchup projects and model them.
