I saw this coming up the interstate yesterday. I have read about these types of walls, but not seen one in person. pritty cool way to do a wall, but seems like it would cost more than wall block to build with all the excess clean stone and geo grid. is there any benefits to this type of wall?
Looks like gabian baskets. Although I'm confused about the interaction of the geogrid. I used the baskets a couple times about 10 years ago on a much smaller sclae. They go pretty quick actually and I may be mistaken but I believe their intent is to become a living wall...I could be wrong. I thought I had read something in the past that said they are suppose to silt in over time allowing vegetation to naturally develop within them aiding in the stabilization of the bank.
Anyone else have experience with these? Or does someone know about the interaction of the geogrid in the application he has shown?
looking back at the pics it appears as if they lined the baskets with the geogrid because they filled it with 1 1/2" stone instead of 3-6" like I have typically seen. The geogrid appears to be there just to retain the smaller stone as the grids on the baskets are usually in the 6" range I believe

I have seen a video on YouTube from the retaining wall guy and they are supposed to be living walls, but if it is supposed to be a living wall and support vegitation, why not aid that with some type of soil and seed.
my very limited understanding is that soils and debris are suppose to wash through the drainage rock over time and then establish plant growth
