Another thread got me thinking....
What is your procedure for compacting the clean stone drainfield. I know Allan Block has you compact it (run right over the blocks as a matter of fact), Versa-Lok says hand tamp.
We run a Wacker 1550 over the AB, hand tamp most other stuff. I once simutaneously had a cow, chit a brick, and lost my mind when I saw one of our guys running the 2540 RIGHT BEHIND about 3' tall worth of Quarry Stone! Needless to say, that hasn't happened again.

I hit it with the 1550. 3050b would be to much.
Seems like in the last year every body bought big compactors! You can judge a man by the size of his compactor!

We run a small compactor over it as well. We had the same problem as you Mark...never again.

Chris, you're versa-lok certified... they say hand tamp, right?

I'd run the 1550 at half throttle before i'd hand tamp.

Come on, Matt. We all know YOU ain't gonna be hand tamping.
You wouldn't want to get that perty shirt all dirty now. :pound:

Chris, you couldn't paint that circle grate to color match the quarry stone?J/K
Nice wall, i want to push more quarry stone next year. do you split the 8" corners with you splitter? wasn't sure if they would split or not?

We actually landscaped the whole property after this pic was taken. We did paint the grate tanish grey. To be honest, I don't remember if I bought corners or split them. Looks like I split them, but I can't remember.

I am! I would of never had a grate even come out of the wall! I would of ran it out below the base if i could get it to daylight.

Where is the drain coming from? What is the yearly rain fall, and how much surface area is draining to the pipe.
If i could not daylight it, i'd dig a big hole and fill it with 3/4 stone wrapped in fabric.
That drain grate ruins the whole wall.

I don't understand why people do this. The 3/4 stone eventually get's filled with dirt and becomes useless.

Matt, that's a strong statement. The wall is still fully functional and looks great. That drain grate is nothing a properly placed plant couldn't hide.

You need to always think out side the box. You say the grate has to be there. Just like how people say a skimmer lid just has to be in a pool deck. Wait until you see the finshed pics of my latest job. I am making the two skimmer lids basically disappear from the pool deck. Its the smallest details like hiding a skimmer lid that makes a good job a great one.

Matt, I would love to see in progress pics of this job. Please post pics soon.
I really like the way you think and look forward to seeing pics of your work.

I will get pics as soon as i make some progress. Turns out when the HO has a open permit from a renovation from 2001 the town won't issue another permit until that issue gets resolved.

Matt, Matt, Matt! If I showed you a pic of that wall today, you would never know it's there. Sometimes the added work that you propose is really not necessary...Sometimes. Thanks for the constructive critisism though.

LOL your right in this instance. He11, i would not even of done quarry stone for that job! HO will never even see that wall. I'd would of thrown in versa lok and planted some boxwoods in front of it.
But my stealth skimmer lids will look sweet though!
