Due to lack of participation we will hold the contests on a bi monthly basis until participation picks up.

I think the contest topics are always too much of a nitche. Majority of the contest I have not had a project that fit the criteria.

Off the top of my head? I could post pics of 5 Rusk projects and you could all vote on your favorite one! Then I win no matter what.

Matter of fact I did 7 projects this year. With a very nice average job price.

I agree with Matt. They seem to be not average jobs. As far as suggestions-- let me think about it and get back to you.

I couldn't disagree more....the only month that would be considered something that everyone might not have done was the kitchen contest. Outside of that....paver walkway, natural flag walkway, natural wall, SRW under 3'.............all pretty basic stuff IMO

Hey I never built a outdoor kitchen, dry laid natural wall, dry laid natural walk, a wall less then 3 feet tall, or a paver driveway.
I think you need to make it more broad. Best before and after. stuff like that. I think this is the reason why only 3 people compete each time.

Well, then what the hell do you build?:noidea: I can partially see your point but if every contest was best before and after????, how many times can you do that? And what exactly are you comparing...just the general overall work? It's pretty easy to take a bad before shot and a great after no matter the quality and detail of the work.
I've got a couple more limiting factors here for this contest....here they are. One being, maybe one of the problems is that each contest has not been too much of a niche, but too specific. Maybe they should be loosened up a bit and be more general. Ie: best wall, best walkway, best patio, best outdoor entertainment area, etc. I do still feel that through the months contests should occasionally be specific towards certain materials/applications(dry/wet)/and functions. Like natural dry laid walkway etc. Afterall, as a group of 'professionals' critiquing each others work, being as specific as possible is important when considering the details that make a seasoned veteran different from a newbie.
And finally, IMO, this site as a whole is still VERY young. It gets the same small group of people posting pics and threads all the time. Some days go by where I don't notice much for new threads or replys posted. Not that that's a bad thing all the time because I think that on the average the majority of the posts on this site are from legitimate professionals willing to teach and from legitimate people aspiring to become a true professional in the field. It's IMO a great give and take relationship on everyone's part here at PH. With that being said, the site still has room to grow and if we want more participation from people with quality work then promote it. Tell the guys you know within the industry about it and maybe we'll have more involvement.
So, it seems to me you've fallen short of the contest simply because of luck of the draw. Although in looking through some of them I know there were some you could have posted pics in but chose not to for some reason. :noidea:

The structure of the next contest will be different. I’m shooting for the middle/end of next month to commence with the contest. Most everyone has a job that will meet the criteria for the next contest. The seasons end is in sight…..get some nice photos of your work before the snow is here! :smow:

I know that I have not done any thing natural. I dont see much of it in this area that is "new" (under 10 years old). Most jobs in this area look like crap that have been done. Maybe its just cuz I dont have that many jobs in my portfolio but it seemed like the contest have not been of projects I had done at the time.
