May be the picture but the bond lines look off. How does mortar act on a flexible road base ?

on the soldier course? Ive never had an issue using mortar as a retainer. suggestions?

oh and forget to mention and didnt include a pic, but every inch of subsoil was covered with a geotextile stabilzation fabric prior to stone.

CMS, overall I think it looks pretty good. That's a decent size job for your first solo.

I'm not sure how many freeze/thaw cycles your area of New Jersey experiences, but in the area I service (SE PA) that troweled concrete edge restraint doesn't hold up, even with steel reinforcing.

As I'm sure you know, if that edge restraint fails, it's all downhill from there.

I really doubt that edge is going anywhere. Even if the mortar cracks, which it will, that curbstone is not going to budge. That's the same way we do cobblestone borders and they hold up through the harshness of winter.

Nice job on the driveway overall. It's a shame they couldn't widen the entrance passed the sidewalk.

Yea I really wanted to re do the apron as well. Wish they wanted some planting and lighting....would really finish off the entire project.

Take what i am asking with a grain of salt b/c i have not had the opportunity to do a drive yet, but are you not supposed to use a 80mm paver for drives? those look like regular 2 3/8" pavers.

heck, it is stronger than what most guys around here do anyway. just asking.

60 mm will be fine for a driveway, its what we've used for years, only thing now is the brick is much much larger in area than before so we need to increase the thickness. Industrial useage I would go with 80 mm.
