We also did a small planter in the back yard. The stone was probably not the best choice because they were not the flatest. This pic was taken in the early spring none of the plants are up yet.

We don't do a lot of natural, but we're working on that. We hired a stone mason who would make this job look like poopy.

the stone is New England Fieldstone round, which is basically any friggin rock that is picked out of the ground. very difficult to work with. We also brought in a small amount -- mostly the larger boulders, and the flat stuff that is the bench back.

I will state now that the granite tread (seat) was mortared.

Do the jobs need to be techincally "dry stacked" or can they be masonry that has a drystack look( as in little to no mortar showing)?

they need to be dry stack. Next contest will be masonry.

Hey guys, I need you to limit your entries to one. All the work looks great, but you need to choose one entry for the contest. Thanks.

Congratulations Clear Valley on being voted best natural stone feature. On a lesser note, I am a little disappointed at the voting turn out. We have these contests as a way to get the membership involved and to show off their work and possible win a couple of bucks, but if the number of participants does not increase, we will be forced to do away with the contests or at a minimum limit them to several times per year....you guys decide.

you guys know there is a contest, keep checking. I was actually impressed by the number of entrants. They were all quality jobs as well, but to only have 5 votes (one of them being me) is pretty pathetic.

Chris, maybe we need a celebrity spokes person to encourage us all to get out and vote. I recommend Jessica Biel. :thumb:

Next time we should probably mention to vote in one of the ongoing threads that is being talked in frequently(I nominate any of mrusks threads!) Otherwise I'm gonna get everybody in my family to sign up and start raking in the t-shirts:dance:
